Great 100 Nurses of Northeast Florida

The Great 100 Nurses of Northeast Florida gathered together for their biennial celebration honoring 100 of the area’s top nurses. This wonderful event took place Saturday, May 12th at Jacksonville’s prestigious Hyatt Hotel, in conjunction with National Nurses week. Professional colleagues, family members, patients, and community members were invited to nominate exemplary nurses to be one of the Great 100 Nurses of Northeast Florida awardees.

This superb evening composed of dining, video presentations, music, and an awards ceremony was promoted through various media outlets which served to educate the community on the work of the registered nurse, the extent of the nursing shortage, and available programs. Community supporters included all of the major nurse employers – hospitals, public health departments, colleges and schools of nursing. Attendance at the event and organization awareness has grown with each celebration.

Great 100 Nurses of Northeast Florida, Inc Scholarship Application Instructions Great 100 Nurses of Northeast Florida, Inc. scholarship funding is available for nursing students and nurses residing in Northeast Florida. Funds can be awarded to undergraduate students, RN to BSN students, and graduate students to defray the costs associated with nursing education. Funds are also available to assist in underwriting the expenses incurred by nurses re-entering the profession, obtaining certification in nursing, conducting research related, attending nursing conferences, and presenting scholarly work at nursing conferences. The Great 100 Nurses of Northeast Florida, Inc. is a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation whose mission is to raise nurse scholarship money, celebrate nursing to the community, and promote support for the profession in our region. Celebration Most all of us (or our loved ones) have been touched by that special nurse whose great skill, caring, and compassion made a memorable and positive, even life-changing, impact. Here in Florida’s First Coast, a tradition began in 2000 to honor these nurses. Registered nurses constitute the largest health care occupation, with 2.4 million jobs. About 3 out of 5 jobs are in hospitals. The three major educational paths to registered nursing are a bachelor’s degree, an associate degree, and a diploma from an approved nursing program. Registered nurses are projected to create the second largest number of new jobs among all occupations; job opportunities in most specialties and employment settings are expected to be excellent, with some employers reporting difficulty in attracting and retaining enough RNs. Executive Director
Mimi Holman, MS, RN, BC, who is a nurse, a past recipient of the G100 award. Ms. Holman has extensive experience in management of hospital education departments, coordination of staff development programs, college instruction, and hospital administration. She has served in adjunct faculty roles at the University of North Florida and Jacksonville University.

Ms. Holman holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Northern Colorado, and a Master of Science degree in Medical-Surgical Nursing from the University of Colorado. She is board certified in Nursing Professional Development from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Assistant Director
Elizabeth Adams, BA who is a recent graduate of the College of Charleston with a degree in Arts Management. This program of study prepares individuals to organize and manage non-profit and arts organizations, operations, and facilities. It includes studies in business and financial management, strategic planning, fund raising, grant writing, programming, special event planning, board development, public relations, advocacy, and applications specific to foundations and community organizations.

Fundraising Assistant

Una Cornelius studied in the field of education at the Ohio State University. She has participated in local and national fund raising activites and currently serves on two boards for the Clay County Board of County Commissioners.
