Dear Editor:
I just wanted to respond to the article on nursing shortages ["Nursing group addresses shortages in Northeast Florida," issue of Jan. 12-18].
It does not surprise me that there is a nursing shortage. I am a student at St. Johns River Community College and have applied to the nursing program four different times and have been rejected. Our schools cater to about 5,000 students and we have a program on our Palatka campus and also one in Orange Park. With that many students ...

Nurses in community will be honored at event
The Great 100 Nurses of Northeast Florida 2005 biennial celebration honoring Nurses Who Care will be Saturday, May 14, from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Hyatt Regency Riverfront, 225 Coastline Drive E.
The semi-formal celebration will honor nurses in the community and raise funds for nursing scholarships in Northeast Florida.

CORRECTION: The new requirements for the state's health assistance plan, the Medically Needy program, will not take effect until July 1 unless there is other legislative direction.
